Simulation framework for real-time database on WSNs

چکیده
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have been the focus of many research works. Nowadays, because of the time-critical tasks of several WSN applications, one of the new challenges faced by WSNs is handling real-time storage and querying the data they process. This is the real-time database management on WSN and it deals with time-constrained data, time-constrained transactions, and limited resources of wireless sensors. Developing, testing, and debugging this kind of complex system are time-consuming and hard work. The deployment is also generally very costly in both time and money. Therefore in this context, the use of a simulator for a validation phase before implementation and deploying is proved to be very useful. The aim of this paper is to describe the different specificities of real-time databases on WSN and to present a model for a simulation framework of the real-time databases management on WSN that uses a distributed approach. Then, the model of the simulator is described and developed in Java and a case study with some results demonstrates the validity of the structural model. & 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Today, data plays an essential role in all levels of human life, from personal cell phones to medical, educational, military and government agencies. In such circumstances, the rate of cyber-attacks is also increasing. According to official reports, data breaches exposed 4.1 billion records in the first half of 2019. An information system consists of several components, which one of the most im...
متن کاملAn Energy Efficient Clustering Method using Bat Algorithm and Mobile Sink in Wireless Sensor Networks
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) consist of sensor nodes with limited energy. Energy efficiency is an important issue in WSNs as the sensor nodes are deployed in rugged and non-care areas and consume a lot of energy to send data to the central station or sink if they want to communicate directly with the sink. Recently, the IEEE 802.15.4 protocol is employed as a low-power, low-cost, and low rat...
متن کاملExploring the use of wireless sensor networks in building management
Due to the raising awareness of sustainability, energy efficient buildings have received significant attention by the academia and industry. Current practice of energy monitoring and control mainly relies on wired sensors, which are expensive and difficult to maintain. Moreover, systems servicing buildings do not “talk to each other”, which creates silos of information resulting in inefficient ...

After a decade of research in the field of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) there are still open issues. WSNs impose several severe requirements regarding energy consumption, processing capabilities, mobility, and robustness of wireless transmissions. Simulation has shown to be the most cost-efficient approach for evaluation of WSNs, thus a number of simulators are available. Unfortunately, thes...
